Why limit your culinary experience markets and restaurants in the City? Why not take it one step further and visit a small scale organic farm on this very special Sacred Valley tour. As part of your exploration of Peruvian food, see where the produce is coming from! Learn about the artisan coffee and chocolate production process on this foodie’s tour! Eat at one of the best restaurants in the Sacred Valley and finish the day off by visiting a local chicheria and a modern-day brewery. This Sacred Valley tour from Cusco is perfectly combined with a trip to Machu Picchu and gives you new insight into Peru food.
Today’s Sacred Valley tour will begin when you depart Cusco at 9:00am. You will travel to the town of Urubamba in the Sacred Valley where you will participate in two workshops provided by the locally organized experiential tourism project of Chichubamba. Here your foray into Peru food will begin with a visit to small scale Peruvian organic farm to learn about the techniques that they use and about the crops that grow in this area. The next stop will be great for those who love Peruvian coffee, a stop to see the traditional artisan process of coffee and chocolate production. We follow the steps of toasting and grinding of the cacao and forming into a mold to create basic cacao paste. The same similar first steps followed by the coffee bean before reaching your cup. Each visit will last between 40 and 60 minutes.
The next stop on your Sacred Valley food tour is one of the best restaurants in town where the owners have lovingly created Peruvian cuisine with Mediterranean and Asian influences but using typical local ingredients, many of them organic. You will be able to savour the perfectly-balanced flavours as you enjoy lunch in this cute, local restaurant.
After lunch our food tour gets slower! We visit a local chicheria where Chicha de Jora, the traditional, ceremonial beverage of the Incas is made and where you can try your hand at the local game, Sapo. From here we jump to the modern-day Great Lakes Brewing Co. to see the difference between the traditional and the new brewing techniques in Peru. We return to Cusco at approximately 6:00pm or you will be dropped off at your Sacred Valley hotel at approximately 5:00pm.
