This cultural exchange tour enables you to immerse yourself in Peru’s rich cultural heritage and stunning environments. We travel to the Sacred Valley of Peru and experience life in a high Andean village, as part of the emerging cultural tourism area.
With this unique Majestic Peru tour, we enable you to see past the major attractions (though you will visit them too) and experience language and Peruvian cultural immersion while staying in a rural village and participating in their daily life.
This cultural exchange program provides opportunities to interact in authentic ways with the Peruvian people as we believe that with greater comprehension between different people, there can be more empathy worldwide.
Just because you want to “give back” while on holiday doesn’t mean you miss out: we offer the chance to trek to Machu Picchu or go by train and to also visit the World Heritage listed city of Cusco. So… this is the very best of cultural travel.
This cultural tour is for the sensitive traveler who wants to really immerse themselves in a culture and also ‘give back’ while they are on holiday in some well-designed interaction. A memorable and amazing way to spend a week in Peru!
Afternoon: Enjoy a walking tour of Cusco visiting the Qoricancha, the most sacred Inca Temple of their state, the Cathedral and the San Pedro market, the city’s oldest produce market.
Afternoon: In the afternoon we will travel 40 minutes to the community of Taray where we will work with the children of the community to help them learn new skills. It might be sports, English, yoga, ecology or other topics that are of interest to you and which you would like to share. This is fantastic cultural exchange!
Afternoon: In the afternoon we will return to Taray to continue with our cultural exchange and service work.
Afternoon: This is our last day working with the children of Taray so we will take advantage and give them the best that we have to offer – and take this final chance for true cultural exchange – before we continue on our way to Ollantaytambo for the night.
Afternoon: Take an early afternoon train to the town of Machu Picchu and get settled in to our hotel.
Adventure Option- for those interested in adventure cultural travel.
Wake early to start the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Hike for 5 to 6 hours from the archaeological site of Chachabamba through beautiful cloud forest and along original Inca Trail to impressive site of Wiñay Wayna where we will have lunch. After our break, we will continue the last hour and a half to the Inca site of Machu Picchu before taking the bus into town. Note, Inca Trail permits need to be purchased 3-6 months prior to travel.
Evening: Dinner in the town of Machu Picchu
Afternoon: Return by train and vehicle to Cusco.
Afternoon: Visit with a traditional healer to learn about the medicinal value of the local plants and the ancestral ways that have been used for centuries for the treatment of illnesses. Or if you would like to learn about the sweeter side of Cusco life, this afternoon you could be spent doing a chocolate- making workshop. Alternatively, you can learn to cook Peruvian food for yourself as a special way to enjoy your last meal here. These final activities are all designed to give different aspects of Peruvian culture.
We recommend a mid afternoon flight depending on your travel plans. Alternatively, we can connect with one of our highly recommended Peru Short Trips & Extensions.
