Majestic Peru invites you to discover lesser-known but equally fascinating parts of Peru, with our northern peru tours. This wonderful Peru touring adventure visits secret treasures, hidden fortresses and spectacular mountain scenery, uncovering Northern Peru at its best.
Our tour starts in Tarapoto, deep in the Amazon basin, a little visited town that is also a centre for Cocoa production. We like to get off the beaten track and this tour starts in the heart of the ‘real Peru’. In general northern Peru is little visited by international visitors, and certainly very few get to Tarapoto!
This north peru tour includes an extraordinary amount of biological diversity as we travel from the high jungle plateau to the low cloud forest and then down to the Northern Coastal area of Peru.
Other highlights include attractive Chachapoyas village, the fortress of Kuelap, and of course the Gocta Falls, the third highest waterfalls in the world! These stunning falls are an absolute highlight of the northern Peru trip and something to tick off your bucket list!
The final days of this northern peru tour includes a visit to some impressive archaeological sites, namely the Lord of Sipan at Chiclayo, Chan Chan city, and the Temples of the Sun and Moon. Other highlights of your final days in north Peru include colonial Trujillo and the reed boats on the coast at Huanchaco.
This innovative and little known Peru itinerary, incorporating a number of northern peru tours, is highly recommended for those who like to get away from the crowds!
Not unlike Machu Picchu, Gocta was always known to the locals however it was not until 2005 when an expedition team went in to actually measure the falls that it became known to the world. With a total height of 771m (843 yards) and a free fall of 540m (590 yards), Gocta is one of the world’s tallest waterfalls but is not often visited and you will surely feel like you are the one who is discovering them for the first time. You will enjoy lunch in the area before hiking back to your transport and returning to town.
After the visit we will enjoy lunch in the town of Lambayeque before visiting the Museum of the Royal Tombs* where we will have the opportunity to learn more about the Moche and other great cultures of pre-Colombian Peru. After the visit, we will return to our hotel in Chiclayo.
*Please note that this museum is closed on Mondays and an alternate activity will be offered.
After the tour we will check into our Trujillo hotel.
You will have lunch here before returning to Trujillo and preparing for your transfer to the Trujillo airport. Goodbye to Northern Peru and all of her wonders!
