Obviously the Cusco and Machu Picchu region are rich with treasures and this 2 day Machu Picchu trip is an express look at this wonderful area. We do recommend spending longer, and will happily adapt this itinerary for a 3 or more day stay, as the more time you have the more you will be able to see. Machu Picchu is a wonder of the world, and Cusco an amazing heritage city and they both merit considerable time on their own.
You take an early morning flight from Lima to Cusco (we recommend no later than 8am departure), and we pick you up at the airport and delve head first into our Machu Picchu tours . Our first stop will be a short visit to the Pisac market. Here we will enjoy some souvenir shopping and an early lunch at one of the great eateries situated on the edge of this bustling Plaza. You will then continue on your tour to Machu Picchu and enjoy spectacular scenery in the Sacred Valley of the Incas before arriving in the last remaining Incan town, Ollantaytambo. Here, there is a brief opportunity to visit the Ollantaytambo ruins before taking the Machu Picchu train to Aguas Calientes. This is a fabulous 1.5 hour train trip through stunning landscapes, finally winding into “Machu Picchu Pueblo”. There is time to enjoy wandering about this village before dinner and getting to bed early in preparation for the next day. For many, a visit to Machu Picchu is the culmination of a life long dream and its best to be well rested!
We will be up well before dawn, and take the first bus up to Machu Picchu. You arrive before the bulk of the crowds and will be present when the clouds and half light of dawn pass and reveal the citadel in all its majesty. Due to the express nature of this tour, you’ll have a 3 hour tour and a brief opportunity to explore on your own before taking the bus down to Machu Picchu by 11.30am at the latest. We’ll take the 12.30pm train back to Ollantaytambo and enjoy a box lunch en route. From Ollantaytambo, you will have a vehicle transfer back to Cusco. Arriving at 2.30pm you will have the choice of exploring the central Cusco city on your own or have a guide present. This is a beautiful city and you will be able to take in some of the atmosphere during your brief visit. You will need to be back at the Cusco airport by 4.30pm. This enables you to check in and return to Lima by early evening.
